Cookie Policy
Effective: February 27, 2026 · Questions: support@northcast.ca
1. What Are Cookies
Cookies are small text files that are placed on your device when you visit a website. They allow the site to recognize your device, remember your preferences, and provide a better browsing experience.
Northcast uses cookies and similar tracking technologies (such as local storage) to operate the Service and, with your consent, to analyze usage patterns.
2. Cookies We Use
Essential Cookies (always active)
These cookies are necessary for the Service to function and cannot be disabled. They include:
- Session token (
next-auth.session-token) — keeps you signed in during your session. Duration: session / 30 days. - CSRF token (
next-auth.csrf-token) — protects against cross-site request forgery. Duration: session. - Cookie consent (
nc_cookie_consent, localStorage) — remembers your consent choice so we don't ask again. Duration: persistent.
Local Storage (functional, always active)
We use your browser's local storage to save preferences and progress. This data never leaves your device and is not transmitted to our servers:
- Sidebar state (
sidebar-collapsed) — remembers whether you collapsed the sidebar. - Onboarding (
northcast_checklist_dismissed) — tracks whether you dismissed the onboarding checklist. - Feature tours (dynamic keys) — remembers which guided tours you have completed so they are not shown again.
- Content progress (
content-progress-*,kanban-state-*) — saves your content production progress and kanban board layout per audit. - Tab indicators (
content-tab-seen-*) — tracks whether you have viewed the Content tab to clear the "new" badge. - Modal preferences (
northcast-hide-scan-modal) — remembers if you chose not to see the scan-started modal again.
Analytics Cookies (consent required)
Only loaded after you click "Accept all" on our cookie banner:
- Google Analytics 4 (
_ga,_ga_*) — measures traffic and page-level engagement so we can improve the product. No advertising features are enabled. IP addresses are anonymized. Duration: up to 2 years. Google Privacy Policy ↗
3. Your Choices
When you first visit Northcast you will see a cookie banner with two options:
- Accept all — essential + analytics cookies are enabled.
- Essential only — only cookies necessary for login and security are set. Analytics are not loaded.
You can change your choice at any time by clearing your browser's local storage (key: nc_cookie_consent) and refreshing the page, which will re-display the banner.
You may also configure your browser to block or delete cookies entirely. Note that disabling essential cookies will prevent you from signing in.
4. Third-Party Cookies
We do not allow third-party advertising networks to set cookies on our site. The only third-party cookies present (after consent) are Google Analytics cookies described above.
5. Do Not Track
Some browsers send a "Do Not Track" (DNT) signal. At this time there is no agreed-upon industry standard for DNT. We do not respond to DNT signals differently; however, you can decline analytics cookies using our banner to prevent tracking.
6. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time. Material changes will be announced via an updated effective date and, where appropriate, a new consent prompt.
